Android is great, but the experience isn't there, and may not be for a very long time. In fact, I'd say Windows Phone is closer to that Apple "magic" than Android at this point.
Google sold their mobile soul in return for ubiquity, and they're paying the price now in degraded experience, or at least the perception by users that the Android experience is degraded.
If they can get Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) onto more than the current 1.6% of Android devices, they'll see improvement in that experience, if not in the perception. My Galaxy Nexus is stunning, visually and from an interface perspective.
But a "blank slate" user buying their first smartphone or tablet isn't going to think twice about saving their money for an Apple device, and that's an uphill battle Google will be fighting for a very long time.
PS: What intrigues me most is the graphics innovation, it looks like gaming will look beautiful on the new iPad.
